Maurice Say Mo’!

Very slowly, I have been developing a taste for house music. While I pride myself on thinking I know everything about (gay) pop music, I am well aware that I don’t know too much about house music besides Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love” with Georgio Moroder in 1977. But I think 60% of all gay people over the age of 21 know that the above mentioned was arguablly the first house song ever made (and one of the most influentiual songs of all time).

I spent summer 2007 interning at King Street Sounds, a house label, where I listened to house music for 7 hrs. a day. While I didn’t love every song, I learned a lot about house music. One of my favourite remixers of house, who doesn’t do that house-lite-z100-Jason-Nevins-shit-escuse-for-“dance” is Maurice Joshua, who I have mentioned a few times before. He is the David Morlaes to Beyonce’s MC, meaning that he remixes all of her singles and B comes in (sometimes) to re-do the vocals for him. Please note the amazingness in terms of re-done vocals and tempo changing and general essence that is Morales’ “Fantasy” remix. Some of the best work of both parties’ carrers’.
