I got a rocket!
Its a new year, and it has also been two years since we have heard anything from one of my, if not my number one, favourite band, Goldfrapp. They are set to come back this spring with a new album. The lead single, “Rocket,” recently leaked and I could not be happier with it. While the image from the single reminds me a bit of La Roux (they even used the same font that they use), the song also has a hint of the “80’s new wave” band La Roux claims that they are, but I do think La Roux is great, but thats for another time. “Rocket” is a natural depature from their last record, the very excellent, “Seventh Tree.” “Rocket” is pure pop, maybe even their most straight-foward pop single they have done, that is unapolgeticly radio friendly. While I doubt that this is going to be the song that breaks them into a more “mainstream” realm (that will never happen), but at the end of the day, its good to have Alison and William back.
